Making it happen...

I haven't been sure that I'd be able to make my Sierra Arts show happen in time. For the last 4 or 5 months, I've been having some health problems that have severely hindered my ability to paint. Fatigue and pain make it nearly almost impossible to paint for more than an hour or two at a time, and because of my day job I only have the energy to paint during the weekends. This of course, have stressed me out beyond measure and I'd gotten to the point where painting had become a chore. It's supposed to be fun! Well, today I decided it needed to be fun again - and it was.

After weeks of moaning and groaning about whether or not I could make this show happen, I finally realized I can. It wont be exactly how i had hoped it'd be (I wanted more new work than I'll have), but it'll be a show. I discovered that I have enough old work hanging around to hopefully fill the space nicely and I'll still have a few new pieces.

My biggest challenge right now is the size of the work. For several years now I've had terrible neck and shoulder pain that is exacerbated by painting at the easel (holding my arm out). The size of the pieces I've started make it impossible to avoid making the broad sweeping strokes that infuriate my shoulder so much. Fortunately, I'm nearing the point in each piece where finer brushwork is necessary, so if I can just get through the pain til then, I think I'll be good. I've got some tricks that I think will help me out and I'm making an effort to stay positive and have FUN again. What's point if you're not having any fun, right?
